Baked Pork Chops with Mushroom Sauce
Ingredients
  • butter for greasing
  • 6 pork chops
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • garlic powder to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or equivalently 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, take a 2-quart baking dish and coat it with 1 tablespoon of melted butter to prevent sticking. Set the dish aside for later use.
3
Now, season pork chops with a pinch of salt, some garlic powder, and a few grinds of pepper.
4
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat, allowing it to reach its full melting potential.
5
Add the pork chops to the skillet and cook them until they develop a nice brown color on both sides. Remove the cooked chops to a plate for further processing.
6
In the same skillet, sauté some onions in their own juices until they reach a deep brown color.
7
Add condensed soup and milk to the skillet, stirring everything together until it forms a harmonious blend. Remove from heat and set aside for the time being.
8
Arrange potatoes evenly in the prepared baking dish, making sure they're spread out uniformly.
9
Place the cooked pork chops on top of the potatoes, ensuring they're aligned properly.
10
Pour the soup mixture over the pork chops, making sure everything is well-coated.
11
Bake, covered, in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, allowing everything to cook together.
12
Uncover the dish and continue baking until the potatoes are tender and the pork chops are cooked through, approximately 30 minutes more.
13
Check for doneness by inserting an instant-read thermometer into the center of a chop; it should read at least 145 degrees Fahrenheit, or 63 degrees Celsius.
