Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, or more as needed
- 1 large onion, coarsely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef, or more to taste
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon plain yogurt, or to taste
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon ground red pepper, or more to taste
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin seeds
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Heat a generous amount of oil in a large, deep skillet over its highest heat setting. This will cause the oil to shimmer and bubble vigorously.
3
Take the cooked onion and transfer it, along with a tablespoon of the remaining oil from the skillet, to a food processor. Use the processor's blades to blend the onion into a smooth paste.
4
Reserve any excess oil that remains in the skillet for later use. Set it aside.
5
In a separate bowl, combine the cooked onion paste, ground beef, egg, plain yogurt, garlic paste, ginger paste, ground coriander, salt, and red pepper. Use your hands to mix all the ingredients together until they are well combined.
6
Using oiled hands, shape the beef mixture into 4 to 5-inch-long kebabs. Place them in a baking dish.
7
Heat the remaining oil in the skillet over its highest heat setting. Add cumin seeds and cook until they turn dark brown, about 5 minutes.
8
Stir in the tomato sauce and a pinch of salt. Continue cooking until the sauce is heated through, another 5 minutes.
9
Pour the tomato sauce over the kebabs. Cover them with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven until the beef is no longer pink in the center, about 20 minutes.
10
Uncover the kebabs and place them under the oven's broiler. Cook until they are nicely browned, about 5 minutes more.
