Baked Beef and Bean Tostadas
Ingredients
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped sweet onion, or more to taste
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 6 corn tortillas
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups refried beans
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce, or as desired
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 tomato, diced
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) for optimal results.
2
Mix together the individual spices - garlic salt, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, and black pepper - in a small bowl to create your custom blend.
3
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the beef, along with the onion and garlic, until it reaches a browned and crumbly state, taking around 5 to 7 minutes; discard any excess grease that accumulates.
4
Keep the cooked beef mixture warm while you prepare the tostada shells for assembly.
5
Bread both sides of tortillas with a thin layer of oil and arrange them on a baking sheet in preparation for baking.
6
Place the tortillas in the preheated oven and bake until they are crispy on top, taking approximately 5 minutes; flip them over and continue baking for an additional 2 to 3 minutes on the other side.
7
Heat refried beans in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until they reach a hot and smooth consistency, about 5 minutes (see Cook's Note).
8
Distribute the refried beans evenly between tostadas and spread them out over one side of each shell; spoon the ground beef mixture on top of the beans.
9
Top each tostada with a handful of lettuce, a sprinkle of Cheddar cheese, and diced tomato for added flavor and texture.
