Ingredients
- 20 wooden toothpicks
- 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 20 dates, pitted and left whole
- 20 whole smoked almonds
- 10 bacon slices, cut in half crosswise
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or 200 degrees Celsius. To prevent the toothpicks from becoming brittle during the baking process, immerse them in a container of water. Next, lightly coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to ensure easy removal of the baked goods.
2
Mix together soy sauce and ground ginger in a separate bowl, creating a marinade for the date bundles. In another container, place brown sugar and set it aside for later use.
3
Begin by opening a pitted date, then carefully insert a smoked almond inside it. Wrap the stuffed date with half of a bacon slice and secure it in place using a moistened toothpick. Dip the bundle into the soy sauce mixture, followed by the brown sugar, coating it evenly on all sides.
4
Carefully place the coated date bundles into the prepared 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving some space between each bundle for even cooking. If you wish to add an extra layer of flavor, sprinkle a small amount of brown sugar over the date bundles.
5
Bake the date bundles in your preheated oven for 15 to 25 minutes, or until the bacon reaches a golden brown and crispy state. Remove the baked goods from the oven and allow them to cool for approximately 15 minutes before serving.
