Ingredients
- 8 slices bacon, coarsely chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 (16 ounce) can B&M® Original Baked Beans
- 1 (15.5 ounce) can Joan of Arc® Dark Red Kidney Beans
- 1 (15 ounce) can Joan of Arc® Spicy Chili Beans
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 2 green onions, chopped
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius, if you prefer metric).
2
In a large skillet, cook the bacon over high heat, stirring occasionally until it reaches a crispy state. Remove from heat and place on paper towels to drain excess fat. Discard all but 3 tablespoons of the bacon's rendered fat, which will be used later.
3
In the same skillet, sauté the onion and bell pepper until they become soft and tender, approximately 5 minutes. Add the beans, barbecue sauce, and a small amount of bacon to the skillet and stir until it reaches boiling point.
4
Transfer the bean mixture to a 1 1/2-quart baking dish. Cover it with aluminum foil and bake until the mixture starts to bubble, about 20 minutes.
5
Remove the foil from the baking dish and top it with Cheddar cheese and a small amount of reserved bacon. Return to the oven and bake until the cheese has melted, approximately 5 minutes.
6
Finally, sprinkle some green onions on top before serving.
