Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package dry penne pasta
- 1 pound bacon, coarsely chopped
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1
Boil a substantial quantity of salted water in a large vessel until it reaches its boiling point. Introduce penne pasta into the pot and cook, occasionally stirring the mixture, until it reaches a tender yet still slightly firm texture, approximately 11 minutes.
2
During the pasta's cooking process, prepare a skillet of suitable size over medium heat and cook diced bacon and onions until the bacon becomes crispy and the onions start to develop a golden brown color, stirring frequently throughout this time frame, roughly 10 minutes. Set the skillet aside and collect the excess grease into a small container for later use.
3
Once the pasta has finished cooking, remove it from the boiling water and transfer it to a large serving dish. Add a small amount of oil to the pasta and gently stir until the pasta is evenly coated with the liquid. Introduce cooked bacon, onions, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of collected bacon grease into the pasta mixture. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top and stir until everything is well combined. Add additional bacon grease if necessary to enhance flavor and moisture levels.
