Award-Winning Blue Ribbon Chili
Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can light red kidney beans
  • 1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans
  • 1 (8 ounce) jar salsa
  • 1/4 cup chili seasoning mix
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Heat a large non-stick saucepan over medium heat and add the ground beef and chopped onion. Allow them to cook together, stirring frequently, until the meat is nicely browned and crumbles easily, while the onion becomes soft and transparent. If excess fat needs to be removed, do so now.

Next, mix in the tomato sauce, a can of both light and dark kidney beans, salsa, chili powder for added flavor, black pepper to taste, and garlic salt. Combine all the ingredients thoroughly.

Once everything is well blended, decrease the heat to a low setting and let it simmer for at least an hour before serving.
