Ingredients
- Cooking spray
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pinch cinnamon
- 1 butternut squash - peeled, seeded and sliced
- 4 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
- 1/2 sweet onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup chicken stock
- 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 3 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2
Next, take a 9- x 11-inch glass baking pan and give it a light coating of cooking spray to prevent food from sticking.
3
In a large plastic bag, combine 2 essential ingredients: flour, salt, and cinnamon. Add the remaining 3 key components: squash, apples, and onions; gently shake until they are evenly coated.
4
Take a glass dish and create a layer of 1/2 the squash, apples, and sweet onion. Pour 1/2 cup of chicken stock over this layer, followed by a sprinkle of 1/2 the cheese. Create another layer using the remaining squash, apple, and onions, and then pour 1/2 cup of chicken stock over this layer. Cover the dish with aluminum foil to retain moisture.
5
Bake the dish in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, allowing it to cook thoroughly.
6
Remove the dish from the oven and sprinkle a generous amount of crispy bacon crumbles and remaining cheese over the top. Return the dish to the oven, this time without covering it with foil; bake for an additional 5 minutes.
7
Allow the dish to rest for 5 minutes before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together.
