Ingredients
- 1 Granny Smith apple - peeled, cored and coarsely shredded
- 3 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup golden raisins
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2
Prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper, making sure to cover the entire surface.
3
In a large bowl, combine shredded and chopped apples with brown sugar, golden raisins, flour, and salt. Mix well and set the mixture aside for later use.
4
Working with one sheet of puff pastry at a time, place it on a lightly dusted work surface. Roll the pastry out into a rectangle shape, approximately 10- x 12-inches in size.
5
Place half of the apple mixture down one side of the pastry lengthwise. Fold the pastry over the filling, pressing or crimping the edges together to seal them.
6
Dampen the edges of the pastry with a small amount of water, then press or crimp them again to ensure they stay sealed. Repeat the process with the second pastry sheet and remaining apple mixture.
7
Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking sheet, leaving at least 2 inches of space between each one.
8
In a small bowl, whisk together an egg and milk to create a brushing mixture. Brush the tops of each pastry with this mixture, making sure they are evenly coated.
9
Using a sharp knife, cut 3 or 4 slits on top of each pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.
10
Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
11
Slice the pastries and serve them immediately.
