Ingredients
- 2 (15 ounce) cans black beans (preferably non-seasoned)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, or more to taste
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon sugar, or to taste
- 1 large bay leaf
- 1 (1.41 ounce) package sazon seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder to taste
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cumin, or to taste
- 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano, or to taste
- 2 pinches salt, or to taste
- 2 pinches freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
Instructions
1
Heat a large pot over medium heat, then add black beans to it. Next, pour in olive oil and sauté minced garlic until fragrant. Introduce a small amount of sugar to balance the flavors, followed by the addition of a bay leaf for added depth. Sprinkle in various spice blends including Sazon seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper to create a rich aroma. Combine all the ingredients thoroughly by stirring them together. Add diced onion and bell pepper to the pot, stirring gently to avoid bruising their delicate texture. Cover the pot and let it simmer for 8-15 minutes, allowing all the flavors to meld together seamlessly. Remove the lid and make any necessary adjustments to the seasoning before serving.
