Ingredients
- 1/4 cup tamari (gluten-free soy sauce)
- 1/4 cup sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced, divided
- 2 cloves garlic, minced, or more to taste
- 4 (6 ounce) tuna steaks
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, or to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
1
Combine the tamari, sesame oil, mirin, honey, vinegar, ginger, green onions, and garlic in a bowl until the marinade is thoroughly blended.
2
Place the tuna steaks in the marinade and store them in the refrigerator for a minimum of 1 hour.
3
Sprinkle sesame seeds onto a plate. Remove the tuna from the marinade and discard the remaining marinade. Gently press the tuna into the sesame seeds until it is evenly coated.
4
Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a cast iron skillet over extremely high heat until it reaches a very hot state; cook the tuna in the scorching oil until it is cooked to your desired level of doneness, typically 30 seconds to 5 minutes per side.
