Apple Walnut Butter Tarts
Ingredients
  • cooking spray
  • flour for dusting
  • 1 pound prepared pie crust
  • 2 cups apple juice
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon whipping cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
1
Gather all the necessary components for your dessert. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius, if you prefer metric). Lightly spray a muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
2
Dust a clean, flat surface with flour and roll out the pie dough to an even thickness of approximately 1/8 inch. Use a round pastry cutter with a diameter of about 4 inches to cut out 12 identical circles.
3
Carefully place the rolled-out dough into the lightly sprayed muffin tin, pressing it gently into the bottom and sides of each cup. Place the dough in the refrigerator to chill while you prepare the filling.
4
Combine apple juice with a saucepan and heat it over medium-high heat, allowing it to simmer until reduced to 3 or 4 tablespoons of concentrated apple syrup. Set the saucepan aside for now.
5
In a separate bowl, mix together brown sugar and the apple syrup you've set aside. Add melted butter, an egg, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt to the bowl. Whisk the mixture until it's smooth and free of lumps.
6
Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator. Divide the walnuts evenly among the bottom of each tart shell, spreading them out in an even layer. Pour the filling mixture over the walnuts, leaving about 2/3 of each shell empty.
7
Gently tap the muffin tin to ensure the filling is evenly distributed and smooth out any air bubbles. Bake the tarts in a preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the crust is cooked through and the filling is bubbly.
8
Once the tarts have finished baking, let them cool for approximately 10 minutes before removing them from the muffin tin. Serve the warm tarts at room temperature and enjoy your delicious dessert!
