Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups seedless raisins
- 4 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1/3 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 soda crackers, finely crushed
- 1 pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 425 degrees Fahrenheit or 220 degrees Celsius.
2
Combine the raisins, apples, orange zest, orange juice, and apple cider in a cooking vessel. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring periodically, until the apples become extremely tender, approximately 20 minutes. Introduce the sugar, cinnamon, and cloves into the mixture, blending it thoroughly with the soda crackers. Store the mixture in the refrigerator until needed or pour it into a pre-baked pie crust. Cover with the second pie crust layer, pressing and crimping the edges to seal them tightly. Use a fork to create several holes in the top crust.
3
Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Lower the oven temperature to its next lowest setting, which is 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius, and continue baking until the top crust turns golden brown, roughly 30 minutes more. Allow the pie to cool before serving.
