Ingredients
- 3 sweet apples -- peeled, cored and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 (15 ounce) package prepared, unbaked pie crust, thawed
- milk
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the optimal temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius, if you prefer metric).
2
In a bowl, combine apple slices with sugar, flour, salt, and the warm, aromatic spice blend commonly used in baked goods until they are evenly coated with a thin layer of the dry ingredients.
3
Place a sheet of pie dough on a lightly oiled surface, allowing it to relax and become pliable. Then, spread the apple slices across one side of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges to prevent overfilling. Brush the border and opposite half of the dough with a small amount of milk, taking care not to make it too wet.
4
Fold the dough over the apples, making sure not to pack them in too tightly and risking damage to the delicate pastry. Fold over the edges of the dough and press together gently to seal the filling within. Use a sharp knife to make several small incisions in the top of the pastry pocket, then brush it with a beaten egg for added flavor and texture.
5
Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes, or until it has achieved a flaky, golden brown crust. Serve warm, or at room temperature, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
