Apple Naan Flatbread
Ingredients
  • 3 slices bacon, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 medium unpeeled apple, cored and sliced
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 (9 inch) granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 1/2 cup arugula, or to taste
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or 200 degrees Celsius.
2
Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper and set it aside for later use.
3
In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until it reaches a crispy and golden brown state, taking around 4 minutes.
4
Carefully transfer the cooked bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease, and reserve the remaining bacon fat in the skillet.
5
Add sliced apples and onions to the skillet, stirring occasionally until they become tender and soft, approximately 8-10 minutes.
6
Take the skillet off the heat source and stir in the cooked bacon, adding a sprinkle of thyme over the apple mixture.
7
Stir in balsamic vinegar to bring out the flavors, and season with salt and pepper according to your taste.
8
Place a naan bread on the prepared baking sheet, brushing it lightly with olive oil.
9
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the naan bread, followed by a layer of Gruyere cheese.
10
Bake the naan in the preheated oven until it reaches a golden brown color and the cheese is melted, taking around 10-12 minutes.
11
Remove the baked naan from the oven and top it with a handful of fresh arugula, serving immediately.
