- 1 sheet puff pastry, rolled to 1/8-inch thickness
- 4 baking apples - peeled, cored, and cut into 1/3-inch thick slices
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/3 cup superfine sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 egg, well beaten

Begin by preheating your oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Celsius.

Next, take the puff pastry and place it on a round pizza pan to create a base for your apple galette.

In a separate bowl, combine sliced apples with lemon juice and mix until they are evenly coated. Add granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves to the bowl and toss again to ensure everything is well combined. This will help bring out the flavors of the apples.

Now, spread the apple mixture onto the center of the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges. Fold the edges of the pastry upwards towards the center to create a crust.

Brush the folded pastry edges with about half of the egg, making sure they are evenly coated. This will help create a golden brown crust.

Place the pastry-apple mixture in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together and the pastry to settle. During this time, brush the remaining half of the egg onto the pastry for an extra layer of flavor.

After 20 minutes, give the galette a quarter turn and reduce the oven heat to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius. Continue baking until the pastry is lightly browned, taking about 8 to 10 minutes.
