Ingredients
- 5 cups sliced peeled tart apples
- 1 2/3 cups white sugar, divided
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup table cream (18%)
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
Instructions
1
Heat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Combine the sliced apples with two-thirds of a cup of sugar, along with some ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a large bowl. Distribute the apple mixture evenly into a 9x9-inch baking dish that is at least two inches deep.
3
In another bowl, mix together the flour, the remaining one cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined. In a separate container, whisk together the egg, cream, and melted butter until smooth. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture bowl and stir until all ingredients are fully incorporated. Using a spoon, spread the batter evenly over the apple mixture to ensure that all apples are completely sealed.
4
Bake in the preheated oven until it reaches a golden brown color on top, approximately 50 minutes.
