Ingredients
- cooking spray
- 3 McIntosh apples, cored and sliced
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, divided
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a medium-high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or equivalently, 175 degrees Celsius).
2
Next, take a moment to lubricate an 8-inch square baking dish with cooking spray, ensuring it's well-coated and ready for use.
3
Now, arrange the sliced apples in a single layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Following this, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon over the apples to add flavor.
4
Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of white sugar, and 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Add some rolled oats to the mix as well. Sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon over this mixture, too.
5
Using a spoon or whisk, gently stir in 1 tablespoon of water and 1 egg until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
6
Next, spread this batter evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish. Make sure to cover the entire surface.
7
In another bowl, mix together any remaining 1/4 cup of brown sugar and the leftover 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
8
Finally, use a small amount of butter to create tiny dots on top of the batter. This will add an extra layer of flavor and texture.
9
Place the baking dish in a preheated oven and bake until it's golden brown, taking approximately 45 to 50 minutes.
