Apple and Sauerkraut Pork
Ingredients
  • 1 (3 pound) pork roast
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans sauerkraut, or to taste
  • 3 cups water, or more as needed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 medium apple - peeled, cored, and finely chopped
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, which is equivalent to 200 degrees Celsius.
2
Take a large roasting pan and place the pork inside it. Add some salt and black pepper to taste, as these will enhance the flavor of your dish.
3
Meanwhile, combine sauerkraut, water, a finely chopped onion, and diced apple in a large bowl. Use your hands or a spoon to mix everything together until it's well combined.
4
Place the pork in the roasting pan and pour the sauerkraut mixture over it. This will help keep the meat moist and flavorful.
5
Put the pork in the preheated oven and roast it until it's heated through, which should take around 1 hour.
6
Reduce the oven temperature to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, or 150 degrees Celsius. Continue roasting the pork for another 2 hours, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of the meat reads at least 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
7
If the sauerkraut mixture starts to look dry, you can add a bit more water to keep it moist. This will ensure that your pork stays juicy and flavorful.
8
Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest in a warm area for about 10 minutes before slicing.
9
Finally, slice the pork and serve it hot, garnished with some chopped fresh herbs if desired.
