Ingredients
- 4 carrots, peeled and grated
- 2 apples - peeled, cored, and grated
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup fine bread crumbs
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 2/3 cup butter
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 4 eggs
Instructions

.
3
Next, sift together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and allspice in a separate small bowl. Combine these dry ingredients
4
.
5
In another large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Then add the eggs one at a time, blending well after each addition. Stir in the flour mixture
6
.
7
Add the carrot mixture to the bowl with the wet ingredients and mix until everything is well incorporated
8

9
Transfer the mixture to a lightly-greased, 2-quart mold. Place this mold on top of the steamer rack in a large pot, making sure it's centered

11
Pour enough water into the bottom of the pot to cover two-thirds of the mold. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Simmer for 2 hours and 45 minutes, topping up the water as needed to maintain the desired level
12
.
13
Once the steaming time has elapsed, remove the mold from the water and let it cool for 10 minutes before turning out onto a plate
