Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 5 cups fresh blueberries
- 4 apples - peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
- 1 lemon, juiced and zested
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
1
First, preheat your oven to the optimal temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius). Next, take a 9x13-inch baking dish and apply a thin layer of butter to prevent the mixture from sticking.
2
Then, combine 2 cups of whole wheat flour, 1 cup of rolled oats, and 1/2 cup of butter in a mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of white sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and a pinch of kosher salt. Use an electric mixer to blend the ingredients until they form small clumps, taking around 3-5 minutes.
3
After that, place the bowl in the refrigerator to chill until you're ready to use it.
4
Then, take a large mixing bowl and combine the following ingredients: blueberries, apples, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of white sugar, 2 tablespoons of whole wheat flour, some freshly squeezed lemon juice and zest, the remaining 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg.
5
Next, transfer the fruit mixture to the prepared 9x13-inch baking dish. Finally, sprinkle the chilled oat mixture evenly over the top of the fruit.
6
Finally, place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbly, taking around 35-45 minutes.
