Amish Ground Beef and Noodle Casserole
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed, diced tomatoes
  • 1 (12 ounce) package uncooked egg noodles
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
Instructions
1
First, heat the oven to its highest temperature setting, which is 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, fill a large pot with water and add just enough salt to make it lightly salty. Bring the water to a boil, then submerge the noodles and cook until they are slightly resistant to biting, which should take around 8 minutes. Remove the noodles from the water with a colander and set them aside.
3
In a separate cooking vessel, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef, chopped onion, diced celery, and minced garlic to the pot and cook until the meat is evenly browned on all sides. Discard any excess fat that may have accumulated during cooking.
4
Now, take a 9x13 inch baking dish and spread some butter evenly over the surface. Fill half of the dish with the cooked noodles, followed by half of the meat mixture, then half of the tomatoes. Pour half of the cream of chicken soup over the tomatoes and sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top. Repeat this process, finishing with a layer of cheese on the surface.
5
Finally, place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour, or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly. Remove the dish from the oven and let it stand for 10 minutes before serving.
