Amish Friendship Banana Nut Bread with Nuts
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 large ripe bananas
  • 2 cups Amish Friendship Bread Starter (see footnote for recipe link)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to the desired temperature of 325 degrees Fahrenheit or 165 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, lubricate two 9x5-inch loaf pans with a generous amount of non-stick cooking spray to prevent the loaves from sticking.
3
Mix the softened butter and ripe bananas in a large mixing bowl until they reach a smooth consistency, then blend in the Amish starter, eggs, sugar, chopped walnuts, and milk until well combined.
4
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until they form a harmonious mixture. Gradually incorporate this dry mixture into the banana mixture, stirring gently to avoid over-mixing.
5
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared loaf pans, ensuring each one receives an identical amount of the delicious mixture.
6
Place the loaves in the preheated oven and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of each loaf comes out clean, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
7
Once the loaves have finished baking, allow them to cool completely in the pans for about 10 minutes before carefully removing them and transferring them to a wire rack to continue cooling.
