Always Juicy Baked Ham with Sweet-Tangy Glaze
Ingredients
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle beer
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 (8 pound) bone-in smoked ham
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit (or 200 degrees Celsius, if you prefer metric).
2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ingredients of beer, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard, whisking them together until smooth.
3
Place the ham cut-side up in a spacious roasting dish; pour the beer mixture over the top of the ham, making sure it's fully coated.
4
Put the ham in the preheated oven and let it cook until it starts to develop a rich, caramelized crust on the bottom, approximately 15 minutes, during which time you should baste it 4 to 5 times.
5
Reduce the oven temperature to a moderate level of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 175 degrees Celsius, if you prefer metric). Cover the roasting pan with a lid or aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning. Continue cooking until the ham is heated through, taking around 90 minutes longer, during which time you should baste it frequently.
6
Remove the lid and let the ham cook for an additional 15 minutes, allowing it to develop a perfectly golden-brown crust. Finally, allow the ham to rest for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
