Air Fryer Crispy Tostones with Olive Oil
Ingredients
  • 2 green (unripe) plantains
  • olive oil cooking spray
  • 3 cups water, or as needed
  • salt to taste
Instructions
1
Preheat the air fryer oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
2
Cut off the ends of the plantains and make a long, vertical incision in the skin, being careful not to cut into the plantain itself. Cut the plantains into 1-inch cubes, leaving the skin intact. Remove the skin from each cube by making a cut along the incision you made earlier.
3
Place the plantain cubes in the air fryer basket and lightly coat them with olive oil spray. Cook the plantains in the air fryer for 5 minutes, while preparing a bowl of salted water.
4
Remove the cooked plantain cubes from the air fryer using tongs and mash them slightly to about 1/2-inch thickness. Soak the mashed plantains in the bowl of salted water while continuing to mash the remaining cubes.
5
Remove the mashed plantains from the salted water and gently pat them dry with a paper towel.
6
Add the mashed plantains to the air fryer in batches, filling the basket with a single layer each time. Spray the tops of the plantains with olive oil spray and sprinkle them with salt. Cook the plantains in the air fryer for 5 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
7
Finish cooking the plantains by spraying the other side with olive oil spray and seasoning them with salt. Continue to cook until they are golden brown and crispy, taking an additional 4-5 minutes.
