Air Fryer Crispy Sweet and Sour Chicken Wings
Ingredients
  • cooking spray
  • 1 1/2 pounds chicken wings, tips discarded
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 stalk green onion, sliced
  • 3/4 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
1
First, preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F (190 degrees C). Next, lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
2
Now, prepare the chicken wings: Dry the chicken wings thoroughly with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. In a small bowl, mix together baking powder, salt, pepper, and paprika to create a seasoning blend. Place the chicken wings into a large resealable plastic bag, pour in the seasoning blend, and seal the bag. Shake vigorously until all wings are evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
3
Remove excess seasoning blend from the chicken wings and repeat the process until all wings are coated.
4
Transfer the chicken wings to the prepared air fryer basket and cook in the preheated air fryer for 22-23 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time.
5
While the wings are cooking, prepare the sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine vinegar, pineapple juice, ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, Sriracha, and sesame oil. Stir the mixture well to combine and bring it to a boil. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6
In another small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water until smooth. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan and quickly whisk until the sauce thickens, about 1 minute. If the sauce becomes too thick, thin it out with a little water.
7
Increase the air fryer temperature to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and continue cooking the wings until they are crispy and golden brown, about 2 more minutes.
8
Transfer the cooked wings to a large bowl and pour in the prepared sauce. Toss the wings gently until they are evenly coated with the sauce. Garnish with green onion and sesame seeds before serving hot.
