Air Fryer Crispy Onion Bhaji
Ingredients
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 2/3 cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • 4 tablespoons water, or as needed
  • cooking spray
Instructions
1
Combine finely chopped red onion, yellow onion, a pinch of salt, sliced jalapeno, minced garlic, dried coriander, chili powder, turmeric, and ground cumin in a large mixing container. Thoroughly blend the ingredients until they are evenly distributed. Add chickpea flour and a moderate amount of water, stirring until the mixture forms a dense paste. If necessary, add additional water to achieve the desired consistency. Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
2
Heat the air fryer to a medium-high temperature of 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray the air fryer basket with a non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking. Using your hands, shape 2 tablespoons of the batter into flat patties and place them in the air fryer basket. Continue adding and shaping the batter until you have used up all of it, leaving a small gap between each bhaji to prevent them from touching.
3
Cook the bhajis in the preheated air fryer for 6 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Lightly spray the tops of each bhaji with cooking spray to add a crispy finish. Flip the bhajis over and cook for an additional 6 minutes, or until they are crispy on both sides. Transfer the cooked bhajis to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess moisture. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
