Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Katsu with Homemade Sauce
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sherry
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast, sliced in half horizontally
  • 1 pinch salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups panko bread crumbs
  • cooking spray
Instructions
1
Gather all necessary items.
2
Prepare the sauce by mixing together ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, sherry, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic in a bowl until the sugar has fully incorporated. Set this mixture aside to be used later. Preheat an air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
3
In the meantime, place the chicken pieces on a clean and flat work surface. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to season the chicken.
4
In another dish, whisk together eggs until they are beaten. In a third dish, pour bread crumbs evenly. Dip each chicken piece in the eggs first and then coat it with the bread crumbs, pressing down firmly to ensure they stick. Repeat this process by dipping the chicken in eggs again and then coating it with bread crumbs once more.
5
Carefully place the prepared chicken pieces into the air fryer basket. Spray a light layer of non-stick cooking spray onto the tops of the chicken.
6
Air fry the chicken for 10 minutes. Using a spatula, carefully flip over each piece of chicken and spray the tops with non-stick cooking spray. Continue to air fry for an additional 8 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through. Remove the chicken from the air fryer and transfer it to a cutting board. Slice the cooked chicken into desired portions. Serve with the prepared katsu sauce.
